In their analysis they considered four different adverse selection models. They found evidence of adverse selection with market signaling and no-cross-subsidization between the contracts of different risk classes. In other words, they found evidence of separation in the choice of deductible with non-linear insurance pricing and no-cross-subsidization.
The first one was to calculate the premia variations from the insurer's book of premia for different deductibles where the risk classes are identified by the control variables in the regression. This yielded the GD variable. In the second approach we estimate a premium equation and calculate the premia variations by using the deductible coefficient which yielded the GD variable. We have to emphasize here that the GD variable in the deductible equation is different from the ~D variable in Puelz and Snow.
