In 1946 the DuPont company (USA) bought all author rights and developed polyester fibres which they called Dacron. In 1951 polyester was introduced to the textile and clothing market. After that, other polyester fibres were created: Kodel (by Eastman, another USA company), Trevira (by the German company, Trevira) and Lavsan (in the Soviet Union).

According to the mean fibre fi neness, mohair is generally classified into Kid mohair, Young mohair and Adult mohair. White is usually the natural colour of mohair, but brown, black or red varieties can also be found. The diameter of elementary fibres is about 24–40 μm. At present, mohair is produced in South Africa, the USA, Turkey, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand. Mohair fi nds applications in a wide range of apparel textiles and household textiles such as upholstery fabrics, curtains, carpets, rugs and mats, cushion covers, blankets, paint rollers, bath mats, bedcovers, bedspreads, blankets, pillowcases, duvets, mops and tapestries [2,16].
