To simplistically conceive of the discourse of male rape as linear and causal then is at best severely limited, but at worst – in isolating fragments of this practice and presenting them out of context – serves to deflect from the complexity at play here and thus becomes an intrinsic part of the problem. Having broadly carved out my areas of interest, method and rationale, the next stage entails an attempt to ‘get at’ the discourse that both constitutes and permeates these areas or aspects of my triangulation.
