The coach stands in the infield about 20 feet (6 m) in front of home plate. Procedure The coach begins the game by tossing the ball to the catcher crouched behind home plate. The second baseman breaks to cover second as soon as the coach tosses the ball. The catcher throws to the second baseman covering second as he would on a straight steal. The second baseman receives the ball, practices a V tag on an imaginary runner, quickly reverse pivots, and throws to third. The third baseman makes a fake tag, executes a reverse pivot, and then fires to the first baseman, who tags the base as he would on a putout at first.

Infielders line up outside one of the cones. Procedure The coach assumes a position about 10 feet (3 m) in front of the cones, facing the players. The first player in line gets into ready position inside one of the cones. (Play can start inside either cone. If the game starts inside the left cone, players will have to cross over to their left side to make the play. ) The coach rolls a ball toward the opposite cone. The player reacts, uses a crossover step, gets to the ball, and fields it. After fielding, the player fakes a throw and then sprints to the coach.
